Uday SalunkheGroup Director of the Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research (WeSchool), in Mumbai and Bangalore, Prof Dr. Uday Salunkhe is both, a leader and visionary. At Welingkar, since 1995, he previously worked with Mahindra & Mahindra, ISPL and other well known and prestigious corporate organisations. A mechanical engineer with a management degree in 'Operations' and a Doctorate in 'Turnaround Strategies', he has over 20 years of strong experience in academics. Prof Dr. Uday Salunkhe earned his doctorate in ‘Turnaround Strategies for Sick Companies’, an achievement that helped him lead WeSchool, run by Shikshana Prasaraka Mandali (SP Mandali), among the top B-Schools in the country.He has brought that and more to the table at WeSchool   since his appointment as Director in 2000, only five years after he had initially joined the institute. His inherent passion, commitment and dedication toward the institute made him the Group Director of WeSchool and he has not looked back since. He is continuously looking to find new and innovative ways to mentor students of WeSchool to grow and be equipped with the necessary tools required not only to compete on a global playing field but also to succeed on it with the help of a quality education.

At WeSchool , Prof Dr. Uday Salunkhe has been instrumental in launching first of its kind Post Graduate Management Programs like E-biz, Business Design, Retail, , Media & Entertainment, Healthcare and Rural Management , in addition to launching of Innovation Lab (innowe) and initiatives such as Global Citizen Leader Program.

Well respected at home and abroad, he has been invited as a visiting faculty to the Harvard Business School and the European University in Germany and delivered seminars at the Asian Institute of Management in Manila. Recognising his excellence and contribution to management education, the 12th Annual Convention on Leadership has conferred the 'Professor Dharni Sinha Memorial Award for Excellence in Management Education' to him for his outstanding work. He has also been awarded 'The Young Achievers Award' in the field of Academics by the Indo American Society. The teachings of Jack Welch and Arya Chanakya are strong influencers in Dr. Uday Salunkhe’s life and it is what he has learnt and understood from them reflects in his work.

Dr. Uday Salunkhe is currently the Chairman of the Ad-hoc Board of Studies in Management Courses of the University of Mumbai and Apart from contributing as the executive board member, he has also been the Chairman of the Local Management Committee of the Association of Management Development Institutions in South Asia (AMDISA) which is an initiative of the South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC). Dr. Uday Salunkhe took over as the President of Association of Indian Management Schools (AIMS), which is the 2nd largest body of management schools in the world with over 500 members, for the year 2007-2008.
Through the leadership and vision of Prof Dr. Uday Salunkhe, WeSchool was ranked 10th in India by the Times of India B School Survey in 2015.

Earlier, it was ranked 7th in West India and 16th overall in India's Top 50 Business Schools by the Hindustan Times Best B Schools in India Survey in 2010. Under Dr. Uday Salunkhe’s visionary leadership, Welingkar Institute has been ranked 8th in the private B-School category by Outlook in the B-School Survey in 2008, 3rd in Student Exchange Program category and 7th in Faculty Exchange Program category.

Through Prof Dr. Uday Salunkhe’s vision and result oriented thinking, WeSchool is now a name to reckon with, not only in India but at a global level as well. He has been the guiding light for Welingkar and has elevated it to the level that it is at today and has been nominated for and has won numerous awards due to his valuable contributions towards not only Welingkar but also towards education. He is a thought leader who keeps offering key insights to students. Dr. Uday Salunkhe’s articles on leadership, career, management and skills have appeared in leading business dailies.

The awards that Welingkar won are in recognition of leadership, development, innovation and industry interface when it comes to business schools and was due to the positive influence of Dr. Uday Salunkhe. Welingkar institute was also the recipient of the JJ Irani Award as the Best Management Institute, in September, 2006. Uday Salunkhe has initiated several international partnerships for Welingkar with universities across the globe to facilitate faculty & student exchange programs, study internships in the USA, UK and parts of Europe that include Sweden, France etc. Dr Uday Salunkhe has also been part of the official bodies of the University and the Directorate of Technical Education to improve the quality of management education that is currently prevalent.

In February of 2011, the Economic Times did a story on how students from non - IIM institutes like Welingkar were receiving prestigious offers from companies in the financial sectors and the IT sectors. WE School is ranked 16th in the Economic Times – India Inc's Preferred B Schools survey, 2011. Dr. Uday Salunkhe was quoted as saying that India Inc. was back on its feet. Sectors like IT, ITeS and finance were getting a lot of international business, which was creating opportunities for students. Something that only bodes well for Welingkar and everyone that is associated with it.
